Solar Power Kits: Complete Systems for Cabins, RVs and Home Backup

A solar power kit bundles the parts that have to be matched before anything works: the inverter that makes 120V or 240V AC, the battery bank that stores energy, and often the panels that refill it. Buying them as one kit means the voltages, communication protocols and cable types are already sorted, which is where first-time off-grid builds usually stall. This collection is for anyone powering a cabin, a shop, an RV or a house that needs to keep running when the grid does not.

There are 191 solar power kits here from Sungold Power, EG4, BigBattery, Victron, Bluetti and Anker. The entry point is $899 for a portable station; the top end is $15,725 for a 16,000W system with 25.6kWh of storage and thirty-two 415W panels.

Sungold Power SGM-5K5E 5,000W off-grid solar kit with 5.12kWh powerwall battery and six 200W panels

How to choose a solar power kit

  • Daily energy in kWh. Add up what runs and for how long. A weekend cabin with LED lights, a fridge and a laptop uses 3 to 5kWh a day; a family home is closer to 20 to 30kWh. The Sungold Power 5,000W SGM-5K5E with 5.12kWh and six 200W panels suits the first case; the Sungold Power 16,000W SGR-16K25E is sized for the second.
  • 120V or 120V/240V split-phase. If you have a well pump, dryer, range or central air, you need 240V. Sungold's SGM kits are 120V only; the SGR kits and the Sungold Power 6,500W SGM-655M deliver split-phase output.
  • Panel wattage in the box. Two kits with the same 5,000W inverter and 10.24kWh battery can carry very different arrays. The SGM-5K10M ships with six 370W panels (2,220W), while the 8,000W SGR-8K10E ships with eight 415W panels (3,320W). More array means faster recovery after cloudy days.
  • Fixed or mobile. The HUSKY 2 10.24kWh + Victron MultiPlus-II 5,000W is designed for RVs and larger mobile builds and includes a Cerbo GX for monitoring. The EG4 and NEXUS pairs are wall or floor installs for a building.
  • Expandability. The Sungold SGM kits accept extra batteries and panels; the NEXUS platform scales to 214.5kWh.

Sizing tips

  • Use the Solar Kit Calculator before comparing kits. It converts your appliance list and ZIP code into battery, inverter and panel numbers, and the ZIP matters because winter sun hours in Michigan are roughly half those in Arizona.
  • Oversize the array before the battery. Panels are the cheapest part of a kit per watt, and a bigger array shortens the days when the bank never reaches full.
  • Count surge loads. Well pumps and compressors draw several times their running watts at start; a 6,000 to 8,000W inverter handles these where a 3,000W unit may trip.
  • Plan the physical space. Eight 415W panels need a clear, unshaded stretch of roof or ground, so measure before you order; the EG4 314Ah battery is a wall-mount unit, and the All-Weather version is IP67 rated for outdoor mounting.
  • Budget for the install. Kits include the electrical core, but racking, conduit and an electrician for the panel tie-in are extra on any residential system.

Frequently asked questions

Can a kit run my whole house? The 12kW and 16kW systems can carry a typical home including 240V appliances, provided the battery and array are sized to your daily kWh. A 5,000W kit is a cabin or partial-home solution.

Do I need a permit? Any system wired into a building's electrical panel is subject to local code and usually a permit. Portable stations such as the Bluetti Elite 200 V2 plug into a wall outlet and need none.

What is the difference between the EG4 6000XP and the FlexBOSS21 kits? The 6000XP pair is off-grid only. The FlexBOSS21 system is grid-tied, with up to 16kW of combined output and 21kW of solar input across three MPPT trackers.

All kits ship free to the mainland US from our brand partner warehouses, usually within a few business days, with 30-day returns. If you want a second opinion on your load list before ordering, call us.
