Low watt solar panels are the 50W to 200W class used to keep a single battery charged, run a small 12V load or top up a portable power station. How to choose a small solar panel

• Pick wattage by the battery it feeds. What can a 100 watt panel actually run? On a sunny day it produces enough to keep LED lights, a phone charger and a small water pump going through a 100Ah battery. It will not keep up with a fridge; move to 200W or more for that.

Do I need a 12V or 24V panel? Match the battery bank and controller. A 12V bank with a PWM controller wants 12V panels; an MPPT controller can take the 24V or 36V panels and step the voltage down, which is more efficient over long cable runs.
