1,000 to 5,000Wh Batteries: Mid-Size Storage for RVs, Cabins and Power Stations

Batteries between 1,000Wh and 5,000Wh are the working middle of solar storage. One of them runs a compressor fridge, lights and electronics overnight in a van; two or three of them carry a small cabin through a cloudy day. This collection splits into two families that are easy to confuse: standalone LiFePO4 batteries that wire into a 12V or 24V system with your own inverter, and expansion batteries that plug into a specific portable power station to add capacity.

How to choose a battery in this range

• Standalone or expansion. Expansion packs such as the Anker SOLIX BP3000 (3,072Wh, for the F3000 and C2000 Gen 2) or the Jackery Battery Pack 2000 Plus v2 (2,048Wh) only work with their matching station. A standalone battery like the Sungold Power 12V 200Ah works with any compatible charge controller and inverter.
• Voltage. For a trailer or boat with existing 12V wiring, stay at 12V. For a new build with a 2,000W-plus inverter, 24V halves the cable current. The Rich Solar ALPHA 4 LITE gives 2,560Wh at 24V from $799; the ALPHA 4 adds Bluetooth monitoring and self-heating for $100 more.
• Capacity per unit versus stacking. The BP3000 stacks up to three per station for 12.3kWh. Two 12V 100Ah Sungold batteries in the 2 x SUNGOLDPOWER 12V 100Ah bundle can be wired in parallel for 200Ah or in series for 24V.
• Cold weather. If the battery will sit in an unheated compartment, pick a self-heating model. The Sungold Power deep-cycle batteries and the Rich Solar ALPHA 4 list it; check the spec sheet on any other pick.
• Cycle rating. Jackery's 2000 Plus v2 and 3600 Plus packs are rated for 6,000 cycles, the older 2000 Plus for 4,000. For daily off-grid cycling that difference matters over ten years.

• Match charge current to your controller. A 100Ah battery accepts far less than a 200Ah one, so a large MPPT controller on a small battery wastes panel output.

How long will a 2,000Wh battery run a 12V fridge? Most compressor fridges draw 300 to 600Wh a day, so a 2,048Wh pack covers three to six days of fridge duty without recharging, or one to two days with lights and laptops added.

Can I use an expansion battery with a different brand of power station? No. Each expansion pack is built for its own brand's stations, so a Jackery pack only joins a compatible Jackery station and an Anker pack only the Anker models named in its title.

Is 12V or 24V better for a small cabin? If the inverter is 2,000W or above, 24V. Two 12V 100Ah Sungold batteries in series give you a 24V 100Ah bank, or you can start with the 24V ALPHA 4 and add a second unit later.
