How to choose a Rich Solar panel

Rigid, slim or flexible. The standard RICH SOLAR MEGA 100W 12V Rigid Solar Panel is the usual rich solar 100w panel for a van roof, with an IP67-rated build. The MEGA 100W 12V SLIM gives the same 100W in a 15.7-inch-wide frame for Class B roofs with vents and air conditioners in the way. The MEGA 100W FLEX weighs 4.8 lb and bends to sit flush on a curved roof or boat deck.

12V or 24V nominal. A rich solar 200w panel comes in a 24V version: the MEGA 200W 24V Monocrystalline Solar Panel outputs 36.3V nominal, so one panel replaces two 100W units and halves the connection points. Check that your charge controller accepts that input voltage.

Portable or fixed. Rich solar portable panels come as briefcases: the MEGA 100W Briefcase folds into a case with a waterproof 10A controller already fitted, so it clips straight onto a 12V battery.

Setup and usage tips
- Size the array before you pick the panel. The Solar Kit Calculator takes your appliance list and ZIP code and returns the panel watts you actually need.
- Measure the roof, including vents and racks. The SLIM panel exists because standard 100W frames often do not fit between fixtures on a Class B van.
- Do not mix 12V and 24V nominal panels in one series string. Keep the MEGA 200 24V panels together, and the 12V panels together, each on a controller rated for that voltage.
- A briefcase kit needs no separate controller; a rigid panel does. Buying a rigid panel for a bare battery means adding an MPPT controller, or choosing the 400W charging kit that includes one.
- Flexible panels run hotter than rigid ones with an air gap, so expect a little less output at midday in summer.
