Motorhome Batteries: Choosing Lithium House Batteries for a Camper or RV

Motorhome batteries in this collection are all LiFePO4 house batteries, the bank that runs your lights, water pump, furnace fan, fridge and inverter while the engine is off. Compared with the lead-acid pair that came with most rigs, a lithium battery of the same size delivers about twice the usable energy, charges faster from the alternator or a solar array, and weighs roughly half.

This collection holds 10 batteries from Rich Solar and Sungold Power in 12V and 24V, from 100Ah to 200Ah. Prices start at $390 for the Rich Solar ALPHA 1 LITE 12V 100Ah and reach $1,099 for the ALPHA 2 PRO 12V 200Ah with a 10-year warranty.

How to choose the best batteries for camper use

  • Capacity in watt-hours. A 100Ah 12V battery holds 1,280Wh; a 200Ah holds 2,560Wh. A camper with a 12V compressor fridge, LED lights, furnace fan and phone charging uses 800 to 1,500Wh per day, so a single Rich Solar ALPHA 2 12V 200Ah gives two nights without charging. A 100Ah unit like the Rich Solar ALPHA 1 12V 100Ah suits weekend trips with hookups in between.
  • Feature tier. Rich Solar sells each size in three levels. LITE models have a smart BMS and passive cold protection at the lowest price. Standard models add Bluetooth monitoring and internal self-heating with 5,000+ cycles. PRO models use A+ grade EV cells, 7,000+ cycles and a 10-year warranty, like the Rich Solar ALPHA 2 PRO 12V 200Ah.
  • 12V or 24V. Most motorhome house systems are 12V. If you run a large inverter for a microwave or air conditioner, a 24V bank halves the current and cable size. The Sungold Power 24V 100Ah stores the same 2,560Wh as a 12V 200Ah.
  • Cold weather. LiFePO4 cells cannot accept charge below freezing. Self-heating models from both brands warm the cells first, which matters for ski trips and shoulder-season hunting camps.
  • Mounting location. An underbody or exterior compartment battery needs a sealed case. The Sungold Power units and the ALPHA 2 carry an IP65 rating; the ALPHA 2 LITE and ALPHA 2 PRO are IP55 and belong inside a bay.

Setup and usage tips

  • Run your appliance list and ZIP code through the Solar Kit Calculator. It sizes the battery, inverter and roof panels together, which prevents buying 400Ah of storage that 200W of solar can never refill.
  • Set your converter or charger to a lithium profile. A lead-acid profile stops short of a full charge.
  • Check charge current limits before wiring to a big alternator. The ALPHA 1 LITE and ALPHA 2 accept 100A maximum; a DC-to-DC charger keeps the alternator within that.
  • Measure the battery bay. A 200Ah lithium is a different footprint from two Group 27 lead-acid batteries, and the 2 x 100Ah bundle often fits the old tray better.

Frequently asked questions

Are lithium batteries for camper vans a straight swap for lead-acid? Physically, yes, at 12V. You also need a charger and solar controller with a lithium setting and a DC-to-DC charger if the alternator feeds the house bank directly.

What are the best motorhome house batteries for boondocking? A pair of 12V 200Ah units, 5,120Wh total, runs a fridge, lights, fans and a small inverter for three to four days. Add a 400W roof array and the bank recovers most days in summer.

Which of these truck camper batteries handle winter? Every Sungold Power unit and the standard and PRO Rich Solar models self-heat. The LITE models have passive protection only, so they stop charging until the cells warm up on their own.

All camper batteries for sale here ship free to the mainland US from brand partner warehouses, usually within a few business days, with 30-day returns. Unsure whether 100Ah or 200Ah fits your trips, call and we will work it out with you.
