Small Solar Generator Guide: Which Portable Power Station Fits a Weekend, a Desk or a Blackout

A small solar generator is a lithium battery, an inverter and charging ports in one carry-along box, with the option of a folding panel to refill it from the sun. There is no engine, no fuel and no noise, which is why people use them indoors during an outage, at a campsite, on a job site for tool chargers, or under a desk as a backup for a router and a laptop. The small end of the range, roughly 100Wh to 2,000Wh, is about carrying weight and cost rather than running a whole house.

This collection lists 30 small solar power generators from Jackery, Bluetti, EcoFlow and Anker. In-stock prices start from $109 for the 99Wh Jackery Explorer 100 Plus and run to $899 for the 2,073.6Wh Bluetti Elite 200 V2. EcoFlow RIVER 3 and Anker SOLIX C1000X and F1500 units are currently sold out.

How to choose a small solar powered generator

  • Watt-hours for the job. Phones, a headlamp and a tablet for a weekend fit in the 99Wh Jackery Explorer 100 Plus. A CPAP, a laptop and a fan for two nights wants the 288Wh Jackery Explorer 300D or the 640Wh Explorer 600 v2. A fridge through a day-long outage needs the 2,073.6Wh Bluetti Elite 200 V2.
  • Output watts. Match the inverter to your heaviest appliance. The 100 Plus gives 128W, the 300D 300W, the 600 v2 500W with a 1,000W surge, and the Elite 200 V2 2,600W continuous with a 3,900W lifting mode for kettles and hair dryers.
  • Panel in the box. The Jackery Solar Generator 600 v2 with SolarSaga 100 Air adds a 100W panel to the 640Wh station; the Solar Generator 300 v2 with SolarSaga 40 Air pairs a 40W panel with a 288Wh unit for a lighter carry.
  • Expansion. If needs may grow, the Elite 200 V2 accepts B80, B230 or B300 expansion batteries; the Jackery units are fixed capacity.

Sizing tips

  • Write down each device's watts and hours per day, then use the Solar Kit Calculator with your ZIP code. It sizes battery, inverter and panel together, which matters more with a small unit where there is little margin.
  • Reserve 20% of capacity. A 288Wh station comfortably delivers around 230Wh of real use once inverter losses are counted.
  • Panel size sets recharge time. A 40W SolarSaga on a 288Wh station is a slow, all-day refill; the 100W SolarSaga on the 640Wh unit is a better match for daily use.
  • Look at cycle life if this is daily-use gear. The Explorer 600 v2 is rated for 6,000 LiFePO4 cycles, the 300D for 4,000, both far beyond weekend-only duty.
  • Weight decides where it goes. The 53.4 lb Elite 200 V2 stays in the trunk or garage; the sub-300Wh Jackery units ride in a backpack.

Frequently asked questions

What is the smallest solar generator that runs a CPAP overnight? Most CPAPs without a heated humidifier draw well under 50W, so the 288Wh Explorer 300D covers a night with margin. Add the humidifier and step up to the 640Wh Explorer 600 v2.

Can a small portable solar generator power a refrigerator? A household fridge cycles on and off and averages a few hundred watt-hours a day, so the 2,073.6Wh Bluetti Elite 200 V2 handles a day or more. The sub-700Wh Jackery units suit a 12V cooler, not a full-size fridge.

Does the panel come with the station? Only on the "Solar Generator" bundles: the 300 v2 with the SolarSaga 40 Air and the 600 v2 with the SolarSaga 100 Air. Explorer stations sold alone are charged from a wall outlet until you add a compatible panel.
