Jackery SolarSaga Solar Panels: Picking the Right Wattage for Your Station

A Jackery SolarSaga solar panel is a folding, portable panel made to recharge Jackery Explorer and HomePower stations away from an outlet. Unlike a rooftop solar panel, it has no mounting hardware or separate charge controller: unfold it, aim it at the sun, plug the cable into the station. Every model here carries an IP68 rating, so rain and dust at a campsite are not a concern.

The collection is compact: five panels from the 40W SolarSaga 40 Air at $109 to the 500W SolarSaga 500 X at $799. Three are bifacial, meaning the rear face also collects reflected light, and cell efficiency ranges from 23 percent on the Air models to 25 percent on the 200W and 500 X. Buy one to complete a bare station or add a second to shorten recharge time on a kit you already own.

How to choose a SolarSaga panel

  • Match wattage to station capacity. A rough rule: panel watts of at least one fifth of the station's watt-hours gives a useful daily refill. The Jackery SolarSaga 40 Air suits the 99Wh and 288Wh Explorers; the Jackery SolarSaga 200W is the natural partner for 1,000Wh-class stations; the 500 X is for 2,000Wh and 3,000Wh HomePower units.
  • Weight you will carry. The 40 Air weighs 1.98 lb and fits in a daypack. The 100 Prime is 13.23 lb and the 200W is 14.33 lb, both fine for car camping. The Jackery SolarSaga 500 X is 22.05 lb, which is a two-hand carry from the truck to the site, not a hike.
  • Bifacial or single-sided. The 40 Air, 100 Air and 200W are bifacial and collect extra light from the ground behind them, which helps on snow, sand or light-colored gravel. The Jackery SolarSaga 100 Prime is a single-sided mono panel at $199, $50 less than the bifacial 100 Air.
  • One large panel or two smaller ones. Two 200W panels cost $758 against $799 for the 500 X, but the 500 X gives 100W more and one cable to manage. Two panels can be angled independently when the site has partial shade.

Setup and usage tips

  • Use the Solar Kit Calculator with your ZIP code before choosing between 100W, 200W and 500W. Sun hours in Arizona and in Washington State differ enough to change the answer.
  • Tilt the panel so its face points at the sun and move it two or three times a day. A flat panel at noon and a tilted one at 4 pm can differ by half.
  • Keep the panel fully in sun. Shade on even one section of a folding panel cuts output far more than the shaded area suggests.
  • Give bifacial panels a bright surface behind them. Propping the 200W over sand or a light tarp adds output that a dark forest floor will not.
  • Do not exceed your station's solar input limit when combining panels; check the station's spec before pairing two 200W panels or a 500 X.

Frequently asked questions

Will a SolarSaga panel work with a non-Jackery station? These panels are built to recharge Jackery power stations. If you own another brand, check its connector and input voltage before buying; we can look it up with you by phone.

Do I need a solar panel kit with a charge controller? No. The Jackery station manages charging internally, so a SolarSaga panel plus the included cable is the whole system. A separate controller is only needed for charging a bare 12V battery.

Which are the best solar panels here for cloudy weather? The higher-wattage bifacial models, the 200W and 500 X at 25 percent efficiency, gather the most in weak light.

Panels ship free to the mainland US from brand partner warehouses, usually within a few business days, and carry 30-day returns. Call us if you want to confirm which panel matches the station you already have.
