Victron Solar Kit Planning: Building a System Around MultiPlus and EasySolar

A Victron solar kit is rarely sold as a single box. Victron's approach is modular: you pick an inverter/charger, add a solar charge controller if the inverter does not include one, choose a GX monitoring device, and wire it to the battery bank you already own or buy separately. That is why people who run boats, RVs and off-grid cabins keep coming back to the brand; a Victron system can start small and grow into split-phase or three-phase later without replacing the core.

This collection lists the 2 Victron units we carry: the 12V MultiPlus-II 2x120V inverter charger at $1,039 and the 48V EasySolar-II 3000W inverter/charger with Color Control GX at $1,397. Both are sold out right now. The rest of this page explains how each fits into a complete Victron energy system so you can plan the battery and panels while you wait.

Victron EasySolar-II 3000W 48V all-in-one inverter charger with MPPT and Color Control GX for a Victron solar system

How to choose the core of a Victron system

  • Mobile or stationary. The Victron 3000VA MultiPlus-II 2X Inverter Charger, 12-Volt is the mobile choice: 12V, 48lb, and built for 50A 120/240V split-phase RV and marine service, handling shore, generator and inverter output in one unit. The Victron EasySolar-II 3000W 48V is the stationary choice for a cabin or home backup on a 48V bank.
  • Do you want the charge controller built in? The EasySolar-II integrates an MPPT 250/70 solar controller and battery charger with the inverter, with 11,000W of listed solar input. The MultiPlus-II does not list solar input, so you add a separate Victron MPPT sized to your panels.
  • Monitoring. The EasySolar-II includes Color Control GX. For the MultiPlus-II, a GX device is an add-on if you want remote visibility.
  • Output needed. Both units are 3,000W. That covers a boat or RV, or a small cabin, running one large appliance at a time. Bigger loads mean paralleling units, which Victron's modular design allows, or choosing a larger inverter class before you buy the battery bank.
  • Efficiency. The EasySolar-II lists 95% efficiency, which matters when every watt-hour comes from a battery you paid for.

Sizing tips

  • Run the Solar Kit Calculator with your appliance list and ZIP code. It gives you battery kWh and panel watts, which is exactly what you need to buy alongside a Victron inverter since neither unit here includes them.
  • Decide on bank voltage before anything else. The MultiPlus-II here is 12V and the EasySolar-II is 48V; the two are not interchangeable, and every other component follows that choice.
  • Match the solar array to the controller. With the EasySolar-II, stay inside the MPPT 250/70 limits Victron publishes; with the MultiPlus-II, buy a controller rated for your array first, then the panels.
  • Keep a 3,000W 12V inverter within a short cable run of the battery and fuse it as Victron specifies. Voltage drop on long 12V runs shows up as nuisance shutdowns.
  • If you expect to add a second inverter for split-phase or more power later, buy the same model now so the pair can be configured together.

Frequently asked questions

Does a Victron kit include batteries? Not these two units. Both are inverter/chargers, one with a built-in solar controller, and you supply the battery bank. Choose the bank voltage to match the unit, 12V for the MultiPlus-II here and 48V for the EasySolar-II, and size it with the calculator above.

Which unit makes the simpler Victron energy solar kit? The EasySolar-II. Inverter, charger, MPPT and GX monitoring are in one enclosure, so the install is the unit, the battery, the panels and the AC wiring.

Can I start with one Victron unit and expand? Yes, that is the design intent. Start with a single inverter/charger and add units, a GX device or more solar as the budget allows.

Both units ship free to the mainland US from our brand partner warehouses when in stock, usually within a few business days, with 30-day returns. Call us and we will help spec a Victron system around your battery bank.
