Waterproof Solar Panels

Waterproof Solar Panels for Roofs, RVs and Boats: How to Choose

Every panel in this collection is built to live outside in rain, snow and salt spray. Waterproof solar panels are rigid monocrystalline modules with sealed junction boxes rated IP65 to IP68 and framed to shed water, so they can stay mounted on a van roof, a dock-side cabin or a house year-round. The question is not whether they survive weather; it is which size and voltage fits your battery and your mounting space.

There are 38 panels here from Rich Solar, Sungold Power and Anker, from $69 for a 50W Rich Solar MEGA panel to about $1,000 for a pair of Anker SOLIX 440W rigid panels.

How to choose a weatherproof panel

• Check the actual IP rating. The Rich Solar MEGA 100W 12V Rigid Panel lists an IP67 build. The Sungold Power 415W and 440W panels list IP68 junction boxes and connectors, and the Sungold Power 100W kit lists IP65/IP67. The higher numbers matter most for boats and coastal sites.
• Voltage to match your battery. The Rich Solar MEGA 50, 100, 100 SLIM and 150 are 12V panels for van and boat banks. The Rich Solar MEGA 200W 24V Panel replaces two 12V panels with one high-voltage unit, which means fewer connection points to seal. Sungold Power 415W, 440W and 200W kits are wired for 48V systems.
• Footprint. The MEGA 100 SLIM is 50.0 x 15.7in, narrow enough to fit beside a roof vent or on a Class B van. The MEGA 50 weighs 8.0lb and suits a small boat or trailer.
• Efficiency. Rich Solar's N-Type TOPCon panels list up to 25.3% cell efficiency on the MEGA 150 and 24.8% on the MEGA 200 PRO; the Anker SOLIX 440W rigid lists up to 25%. Higher efficiency means more watts from the same square feet of roof.
• Portable or fixed. If you want a waterproof portable solar panel to set out at camp, the Anker SOLIX PS400 400W is a portable panel made to charge Anker power stations; everything else here is meant to be bolted down.

Setup and usage tips

• Size the array with the Solar Kit Calculator. It uses your appliances and ZIP code, so a rainy-climate site gets more panels than a desert one for the same load.
• The panel is sealed; the connections often are not. Route cables so connectors hang downward, keep them off standing water, and use a sealed roof entry gland on RVs and boats.
• Rain does not clean pollen or salt film well. Rinse panels a few times a season and you will see the difference in charge current.
• Snow slides off tilted panels and sits on flat ones. Where winters are heavy, mount at an angle or plan to brush them.
• Pair panel voltage to the charge controller. A 24V MEGA 200 needs a controller that accepts its 36.3V nominal output, so check the controller's input range before buying panels.

Frequently asked questions

Are these waterproof solar panels for camping or for permanent mounting? Both. The Rich Solar MEGA 50 and 100 are light enough to lean against a cooler at a campsite, but the frames and brackets are designed for permanent roof mounts.

Do you carry flexible waterproof solar panels? This collection is rigid, framed panels. The Rich Solar and Anker rigid modules here list 25-year warranties and the Sungold Power 440W lists 30 years, which is the main reason we recommend rigid for anything permanent.

Which is the best waterproof 100w solar panel here? The Rich Solar MEGA 100 for a standard roof, at $110 with an IP67 build, or the MEGA 100 SLIM if width is the constraint.

Every panel ships free to the mainland US from our brand partner warehouses, usually within a few business days, with 30-day returns. If you are unsure about voltage or mounting, call and we will match a panel to your controller.
