Solar System Upgrade – Implementation & Outcomes
1. Background
* Existing setup: 4.6 kWh solar array installed several years ago.
* New demands: Added an EV, network gear, security cameras, NAS, etc., so the original capacity is insufficient.
* NEM constraints: The installer can’t add more panels without converting from NEM 1.0 to NEM 3.0—where the export rate would drop to 75%.
2. Solution Search
After months of research on internet forums and YouTube, I settled on a turnkey system that could be installed independently:

3. Installation Steps
1. Panel mounting
* Fixed the four Renogy panels on the backyard patio.
* Routed all DC cables from the panels to a central point in the garage.
2. Garage frame & safety
* Built an 8 ft × 4 ft plywood support inside the garage and treated it with fire‑proof paint.
* Affixed strut channels to the frame for mounting heavy equipment.
3. Hardware installation
* Hanged the Sungoldpower inverter and the four LiFePO₄ batteries on the struts (two helpers required).
* Connected the supplied cables between inverter & batteries; attached the solar DC lines to the inverter as per manufacturer instructions.
4. System integration
* Hooked the inverter to the internet and performed a firmware upgrade.
* Carefully followed every instruction to avoid connectivity or safety issues.
5. Electrical control
* Installed a circuit‑breaker load center.
* Added a manual transfer switch and an EV charger.
* The transfer switch allows me to select which circuits draw from the solar system—critical during grid outages, where the older NEM 1.0 setup would otherwise prevent any solar use for safety reasons.
4. Results (After Several Months of Operation)
* Reliability: No incidents or faults reported.
* Performance: The 10 kW inverter operates within specifications; battery bank meets daily load, including the EV and network gear.
* Power sufficiency: The added panels supply adequate energy for all connected devices (security cameras, NAS, etc.).

Our Sun Solar system came in complete, and packed well to avoid any damage. I have never installed anything solar previously. This was a DIY off grid install. The system instructions were easy to read and follow. The panels and equipment installed according to the instructions. The system powered up the first time and we have had power every since. We also found several Sun Solar videos to reference, as well as googling our questions ( communication fault at first). We love the Wifi communication device that transmits realtime information to an app on our phone. Allows for great realtime monitoring.

We had purchased a 10KW 48V Split Phase Solar Inverter from Sun Gold Power directly in December of 2025. We have been setting up our new small system mostly for a backup in case of power failure as the winter months do not produce much sunlight in our northwestern location. We chose the location, mounted the inverter, then had to finish the solar panel mounting system. We custom designed and chose to use a four foot elevated wooden universal platform. After a couple of weeks to finish the wiring and mounting 550 watt panels the system was up and running in January 2026. We have 550 watts of panels just now in April starting to charge our 4pcs 48V 200Ah batteries. The system so far has been working great and will be expanding solar panels and battery capacity in the near future. We purchased a Solar Assistant terminal to monitor the system performance and is so much easier to adjust the settings.
