48V Hybrid Inverter · NEMA 4X All-Weather · Grid-Tied + Off-Grid
The EG4 12kPV is a hybrid inverter — it works tied to the utility grid, fully off-grid, or anywhere in between, converting DC solar and battery power into 120/240V split-phase household electricity. A NEMA 4X enclosure rates it for direct outdoor installation, and it's backed by a 10-year manufacturer's warranty, well beyond what most inverters in this class offer.
Rated for 8,000W continuous with up to 16,000W of peak power for half a second — enough headroom for large motor starts.
Rated for direct outdoor installation and built to keep running through rain and storms, not just indoor or covered spaces.
Works as a grid-tied system with AC coupling for retrofits, or runs fully off-grid — the same unit covers both installation types.
Two MPPT trackers with two inputs each pull up to 12,000W utilized (15,000W recommended array size) across four strings.
A wide operating window built for the same all-weather installation locations the NEMA 4X enclosure is rated for.
Compatible with both battery chemistries, rather than being locked to lithium-only battery banks.
Built-in PV arc fault, ground fault, reverse polarity, and surge protection, plus an integrated PV disconnect.
Twice the coverage of most inverters in this class, backed directly by EG4's manufacturer warranty.
Most inverters are built for one installation type — grid-tied or off-grid — and locked into it. The 12kPV is a genuine hybrid: it can run as a grid-interactive system with AC coupling for adding solar to an existing home, or operate fully independent of the grid, drawing from a 48V battery bank rated for up to 167A of charge or discharge current. Either way, the same dual-MPPT solar input, transformerless design, and UL 9540-certified protections carry over.
The NEMA 4X enclosure and -13°F to 140°F operating range mean it doesn't need a dedicated indoor equipment room the way an IP20-rated inverter does — it's built to keep running through rain and storms in whatever location makes sense for the install. For larger or more integrated setups, it's also compatible with EG4's GridBOSS energy management hub for expanded load and grid control, and up to 10 units can be paralleled for bigger systems.

Certified for closed-loop communication with BigBattery ETHOS and the EG4 battery lineup, and compatible more broadly with 48V lead-acid or lithium battery banks (40–60Vdc, 200Ah+ recommended per inverter).
It means the 12kPV isn't locked into one installation type. It can run grid-tied — using AC coupling to add solar and battery backup to a home already on the grid — or operate fully off-grid with no utility connection at all. Purely off-grid inverters like BigBattery's APEX line only support the second scenario.
Yes — it carries a NEMA 4X enclosure rating, built for direct exposure to rain and outdoor conditions, unlike IP20-rated inverters that require an indoor or fully enclosed location.
It's certified for closed-loop communication with BigBattery ETHOS and the EG4 battery lineup, and more broadly supports any 48V lead-acid or lithium battery bank with at least 200Ah of capacity per inverter.
It depends on your total connected load. At 8,000W continuous (up to 16,000W peak for half a second) it covers most homes running efficient appliances, but a full load calculation is worth doing before sizing your system, especially with large HVAC or well pump loads.
The EG4 GridBOSS is a separate energy management hub that adds expanded load and grid control for larger or more complex installations. It's an optional add-on, not a requirement — the 12kPV runs as a complete system on its own.
Given the voltages and currents involved, and the added complexity of a grid-interactive hybrid system, installation should be handled by a qualified, licensed electrician or solar installer familiar with your local code and utility interconnection requirements.
